The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released the proposed 2020 Medicare physician fee schedule (PFS) rule today, which includes proposed changes to the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) and alternative payment model (APM) participation options and requirements for 2020. Key proposals:
- Set 2020 Medicare payment rates for physician services;
- Address E/M documentation guidelines; and
- Establish MIPS reporting requirements for 2020.
MGMA will submit detailed comments in response to these proposals to CMS. The final 2020 PFS rule is expected by Nov. 1, 2019. Review the proposed rule, the PFS fact sheet, and the QPP fact sheet.
